The Canon EOS 60D – The Crown Prince of DSLR’s
The Canon EOS 60D is a joy to review. It is for me one of the stand-out DSLR cameras of the decade. The 60D is in a class above the entry level Rebels while still managing to maintain a respectably easy weight to carry around. It shares the speed and ruggedness of the pro models. The only features that differ from the top professional DSLR Cameras are the APS-C sensor vs Full-Frame models and the ‘extensive weather sealing’ of the pro cameras. As a mid-range or ‘prosumer’ model the 60D excels in every department.

Canon 60D Visual Features Review
First impressions count and visually the Canon 60D’s shows its class. From first look to first touch the Canon 60D spells quality:
- The Canon 60D is noticeably larger than the Rebels.
- The larger body is packed with quick, readily accessible controls. Canon has found a fine balance between avoiding clutter while making important variables readily available, but it is worth spending time to familiarize yourself with the extensive features and controls for fast decisions.
- Of course you opt for a variety of auto picture styles and let the camera manage the variables.
- It sports a very convenient control panel LCD on top to support the many controls without digging into menus on the back panel.
- The Vari-angle rear LCD is an obvious differentiator. The 3″ 1040 Pixel LCD makes 920 Pixel VGA’s of other Canons, Nikons, Sony and Pentax look ordinary. The Vari-angle is extremely well designed and thought-through with 170 Degree flexibility as well as the option to keep it visible in-situ or turned over for protection.

It is not easy to criticize the Canon 60D, but the following should be noted:
- Looking from the point of view of a compact user or a Canon Rebel fan, the Canon 60D is a serious camera that quite large and obvious as a carry everywhere camera. It is both larger and heavier than the plastic Rebel models. Professionals, used to heavier cameras will find the Canon 60D a pleasure to carry.
- Professionals will pay 2 to 4 times the price for Full-Frame sensor of the EOS 1 models vs the APS-C models. It is only the very top professionals with a need to blow the images up to bill board size that need this.
- The Canon 60D does not claim of ‘extensive weather sealing’ equivalent to the the EOS 1 models.

Where to buy the Canon 60D.
The following three online suppliers have proven their reliability and competitive prices repeatedly.
Amazon.com for Canon DSLR and Lenses
Amazon is of course a massive supplier of online shopping. They supply Digital Cameras to the Major countries but not to many smaller countries. Amazon in the USA is consistently competitive in Canon Cameras and Lenses. I have found that Amazon.co.UK is not consistently competitive and recommend looking at B&H or DigitalRev pricing for shipping to the UK. Click here to Order your Canon 60D for delivery this week.
B&H New York
B&H is a mega electronics store based in New York and UK. They rival Amazon for digital equipment both in service and in pricing. B&H also ships to a very large number of countries world wide. Click here to order your 60D from B&H
DigitalRev – Hong Kong
DigitalRev is a Hong Kong based company with a major world-wide distribution network. Their prices do not seem to be competitive in the USA, but I recommend UK buyers compare DigitalRev prices. I also recommend DigitalRev for countries not serviced by Amazon or B&H for Electronic equipment. Click here for DigitalRev orders.
